Shape Charge....

So what in the world does rifle ammunition and explosives have to do with

the internal combustion engine?

--- EVERYTHING ---

After all we are using a gasoline/air mixture to create a explosion/combustion

inside the combustion chamber/bore of a engine.

The photo on the left is of a 45-70  US gov. rifle cartridge used in the late 1880's, It used 70 grains of black powder to drive a

.45 caliber bullet at a velocity of 800 fps. (feet per second)  Even with today's smokeless powders

it has a hard time reaching a velocity of above 1275fps. This is a antiquated cartridge design for all means.

Examine the photo on the right, it is a 30-06 rifle cartridge, this is the cartridge that helped the allies win the second world war.

When it was a new design a 100 years ago....it would put a .30 caliber bullet out at 2000fps,

and with today's smokeless powders it can carry the same bullet in the range of 2400fps.
